Other Ideas
We welcome new design and conceptual ideas to the project. If you have an idea please send in a write up or visuals and we may post it. See some of the ideas sent in below:
- Alexander Rose
These ideas are from Alexander Rose for a building that might house the Clock. The building is made of two counter-rotating spiral forms that pass through each other and rise toward the center. The clock would be housed in the cylinder shape formed in the center.
- NJIT
As a class assignment, students from the New Jersey Institute of Technology fleshed out various design ideas for the Clock site and Library. They approached the design issues in the context of the long-term and as part of the course curriculum read and discussed Stewart Brand's book 'The Clock of the Long Now.'
Glenn Goldman, Professor and Director of Imaging Laboratory, talks about the process of designing the long-term into the architecture with his students, "Hours were spent talking about the nature of long-term responsibility of society in general, and architects in particular...We spent time discussing what could or should be included in the library (and the nature of a library in a remote location.) There were also many technical/architecural issues for the students to deal with: access to a remote location, suitable construction materials for the project, service utilities ( or lack there of), building on steep slopes, and so on. In all, this was, I believe, a good educational experience for the students on many levels.
